About Us
What we do
When Veterans do not qualify for assistance through traditional means, Embracing Our Veterans strives to fill gaps in services for veterans and their families in Erie and Crawford Counties
to empower them to improve the quality of their lives.
We resolve difficult-to-emergency situations of need.
We source and deliver essentials needed to assist transitioning homeless and at risk veterans to having a home with a warm bed.
We assist with vision and hearing care when needed.
We have grown a network of local businesses and organizations, enabling us to provide even more services.
Programs
Homeless Veteran Project
Embracing Our Veterans collaborates with local housing organizations to assist Veterans and their families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless to obtain safe housing. Often, this apartment is empty when the Veteran moves in, and the Veteran has nothing to fill it. No Veteran should have to sleep on the floor. We source and deliver furniture and housewares to transition Veterans from homelessness to having a home with a warm bed. We also work with at-risk Veterans to form prevention plans to keep them in their homes.
Hearing for Heroes
Designed for Veterans who are unable to obtain hearing aids through traditional channels. Veterans and their family members can receive state of the art Siemens Hearing Aids at a dramatically reduced price. Additional funding assistance is available to those who qualify. If you or a family member have a hearing need, please contact Affordable Care Hearing Aid at (814) 825-1327 and ask about the Hearing For Heroes Program.
Christmas Angels Boxes
Since 2017, Embracing Our Veterans works with community partners to identify Veterans and their families who could use some help and joy during the holiday season. We put together boxes with enough food for Christmas dinner, a food gift card, and something warm. Veterans with children may also receive gifts for the kids. A project was successfully tested in 2018 to provide similar food baskets for Thanksgiving. Together, 101 Veterans and their families received Thanksgiving and/or Christmas baskets in 2018.
