Ways to Help
We love our donors, volunteers, and community supporters!
Groups are welcome to volunteer together. Donation drives are a great way
to help. For example, the Church of the Cross collected food and volunteered
at the office to pack it into baskets to deliver to our Veterans for Thanksgiving.
We would also welcome groups to help organize donations periodically or to staff
Donation Saturdays to pick up and deliver donations of furniture and housewares.
Donation Saturdays are among our most popular volunteer opportunities. We always need more strong backs to help pick up and deliver donations of furniture and housewares to our Veterans. Even one Saturday per month makes a tremendous difference to our team! We could also use volunteers in the office to answer phones or prepare for special events. Special events volunteers often help out by putting together gift baskets or answering questions at fundraisers.
Monetary donations go a long way toward helping our local Veterans in diverse ways. Commonly, donations are used toward food cards and gas cards. Purchasing mattresses is another common use. Donations may also go toward special programs like Christmas Angels boxes or toward special circumstances such as splitting the cost of a Veteran's funeral when the family cannot cover cremation or toward one-time assistance of $200 or less to catch a Veteran up on bills to prevent utility shutoffs.
We have handy lists of common items that we can and cannot use. All used items must be in good condition to be accepted.
